The grapevine has certain well-defined climatic requirements.
They can be defined by:

Temperature - An average annual temperature of between 11 and 18 ºC is considered ideal.
Sunshine - A minimum of 1500 to 1600 annual hours of sunlight is required.
Rainfall - Between 350 and 600 litres / m2 of rainfall a year is needed for quality grapevines.
The most traditional wine growing area in the world is located in the Northern Hemisphere, between parallels 30ºN and 50ºN

The Gosálbez-Orti vineyards are situated near the town of Campo Real, in the province of Madrid, at an altitude of 770 m.

The average annual temperature ranges between 13 and 14 ºC.
The average annual hours of sunlight are 2800.
The average annual rainfall is 461 l/m2.
Campo Real (Madrid) is located on the 40ºN parallel, precisely in the middle of the most traditional wine-growing belt in the Northern Hemisphere.

The soil is of fundamental importance. Deep soils with the right supply of water and fertilising elements are required for large productions.

Poor soil and a lack of sufficient water reserves will not allow for any great development of the grapevines. To the contrary, they produce scanty although higher quality crops.

The Gosalbez-Orti vineyards are planted in and around the bed of the Terciario river, in rugged sandy - limestone - clay earth, which is not very fertile, but which is, nevertheless, very suitable for producing quality wines.

The varieties planted are :

No chemical fertilisers, herbicides, insecticides or systemic fungicides have been used in the cultivating of the grapevines.
